Ula’s Story, continued
We first met Ula, a spunky red heeler, at the shelter on Kaua`i, where she was surrendered by her owner of 9 years. She was not faring well in the stressful shelter environment, and we soon brought her into KAWS. We arranged for her to travel to Oregon where a family of another Kaua`i rescue pup was waiting to adopt her. After a few months, the family was unable to keep Ula, and we brought her back into our program with open arms. It did not take but a few days for her to be united with April, who was looking for her first dog and wanted an older dog who was already trained and socialized. “She looked up at me with her beautiful brown eyes and gave me a kiss, and that was it for me. She stole my heart,” says April. Ula has made a seamless transition into life with April which includes many walks, hikes, and snuggles. The two are also attending training classes where Ula shows off her skills- and she has many. April told us, “Everyone she meets falls in love with her.” We couldn’t agree more. It was our pleasure to help Ula find just the right home and we wish Ula and April many happy times together.
