We would like to introduce Mace, who just arrived in Portland from Kaua`i and is searching for his forever home. After Mace spent several months in Kaua`i’s high euthanasia rate shelter, Kaua`i Animal Welfare Society took in Mace and decided he would be a great Portland dog. Mace is a 4-5 year old hound/retriever/shepherd mix, and weighs in at about 55 lbs., though he could stand to gain a few more pounds. He is a mellow fellow, and does well with other dogs, both big and small. He tends to have a calming effect on both dogs and humans. This boy is a sweet, gentle giant who would love nothing more than to be by your side. He enjoys relaxing in the cool grass and taking in the sights. Up until recently, his life was one of being chained up with little exposure to the outside world. He would do well in a home where there is another, more outgoing dog to help him gain his confidence, and humans who give him the love and security he had been missing until he was rescued. This affectionate boy would do well in a home with or without children. Mace is a medium to low energy dog, so a walk around the neighborhood twice a day and the occasional visit to the dog park will keep him content. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.
