Joe Paxton is a big love bug just looking for a home where he can have lots of love from his people and many dog friends to hang out with. Joe is a former boar hunter and has many scars from his hard life prior to being abandoned at the county shelter. When KAWS inquired about Joe at the shelter we were told he has heartworm and that the shelter currently does not treat heartworm. We were told that he did not have the option of foster, off island transfer or adoption through the shelter and that only a local rescue could pull him. KAWS, being the only local rescue that currently pulls dogs from the shelter, would be his only option to receive treatment and have an option to live out his life. So that is what we did!
Joe is well adjusted but a bit shy at first, housetrained, crate trained, neutered, and has been treated for his heartworm disease. He loves the company of other dogs large and small and is kind and gentle to all. He does well with gentle children. Joe is about 4 years old and happy to take car rides and hang out with his family. He is welcoming the life of an indoor family member with gusto! Joe wouldn’t do best in a family with another dog.
