We were thrilled that our friend, Martha, contacted us about adopting a Kaua`i pup when she and her family decided it was time to add another dog to their family. When looking on-line at the adoptable dogs at the shelter, Martha kept going back to a young mama pit mix named Mia. We were happy to let her know as much as possible about this sweet girl when we volunteered at the shelter. Soon Martha told us that she was ready to adopt Mia. Knowing that Martha and Mia would have to wait some time to be united, we decided to bring Mia into our KAWS family and arrange for her to travel to her new home in Seattle. Our friend and KAWS supporter, Marlana, connected us with an escort to Seattle, which allowed us to unite Mia and Martha within a few days. Mia, who most likely had never stepped foot into a house before going to Martha, is now thriving in her new family. Martha tells us that she and Jak, her canine brother, are inseparable. “Her week consists of lots of walks including a day a week where our dog walker takes her and Jak to the doggie park for the day, she plays with her pals at daycare at least once a week and gets lots of downtime at home. We just love her to pieces!” says Martha. Happy stories like this give us the inspiration to continue our work at KAWS. Thank you, Martha and family, for making Mia’s story a happy one!
