Mia

“I can foster Mia.” These were the most beautiful words we could hear from our dear friend, Candy. We had learned less than an hour earlier that within a couple of hours, a sweet senior dog named Mia was going to lose her life at the local shelter. Mia was estimated to be 12 years old and diagnosed with a cataract, and for these reasons she was not going to be considered an adoption candidate. Candy brought Mia into her home where she soon made herself comfortable and thrived on all the love and affection from Candy. Mia was taken to Candy’s vet where she had several benign growths removed, as well as her left eye- which had a growth that could have become problematic in the future. She was also estimated to be 8-10 years old and in good health. With Mia safe with Candy, we had more time to network to find just the right placement for Mia. Our friends at Hoagie’s House- A Forever Home for Senior Dogs and Horses in Amboy, WA, were delighted to add Mia to their senior dog pack. Since Candy had plans to travel before Mia flew out, Mia spent two weeks at Whiskers Resort on Kaua`i while she waited for her flight. Her kind and loving treatment continued with the doting and dedicated staff at Whiskers. Mia traveled with two other KAWS kids, Aka and Phoebe, to the PNW, and is now a content member of the Hoagie’s House family. Shelly and Tracey, who run Hoagie’s House say that Mia’s transition into their home has been seamless. “She is very loving and sweet, doesn’t pay much attention to the other dogs, but seems fine with them. She is very affectionate and is happy to sleep in the bed or on the couch and just lounge around all day,” Shelly tells us. We couldn’t have dreamed of a happier place for Mia to retire. Part of Hoagie’s House’s mission reads, “We are here to provide a month, a couple weeks, a few years to those who just need a loving place to spend their final time. We are not concerned with quantity of time, but quality. They will live in our house and be a part of our family.” More beautiful words. Thank you, Hoagie’s House, for your love and devotion to the seniors. Thank you, Candy for making this life possible for Mia. You all inspire us!
