Joining The Running Club at KHS is a great way to improve the lives of the homeless dogs on Kaua`i. One need not be a runner to join, as there are many other ways this group helps the dogs. In addition to running and walking the dogs, members take the dogs to play in Kenya’s Field where the dogs socialize with each other and humans while getting exercise. Running Club participants promote the dogs by taking photos, writing bios, making videos, and taking the dogs on field trips. They have also connected with partnering shelters on the mainland for the transfer program, as well as transporting dogs and cats to the airport for their flights. The Running Club advocates for the dogs, especially the ones who are struggling in the kennel environment. New members are always welcome.

There are many ways to help support the homeless pets. Our friend, Marla Schaefer, has dedicated an area of Melanie Kuebler’s Spinning Dolphin T-shirt shop in Hanalei to promoting the Kaua`i Humane Society dogs. Tourists who visit the shop cannot miss the cute dog pictures and descriptions, and they often visit the shelter to take a dog or two out for a field trip. Sometimes a special bond is created and the visitors return home with the best souvenir ever- a Kaua`i dog! We hope Marla’s commitment to helping the animals will inspire more community members to find ways to promote the homeless pets on Kaua`i.
